Introduction

An infertility evaluation includes exams and tests to try to find the reason why you and your partner aren't yet pregnant. It is important to understand the overall well being of the couple, the status of eggs or ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes and sperm test.

Why Fertility Assessment is Important

  • Detects underlying causes of infertility early
  • Helps tailor the most suitable fertility treatment plan
  • Reduces time to conception with accurate diagnosis
  • Provides reassurance and clarity to couples planning pregnancy

Comprehensive Fertility Testing

For Women: Female Fertility Testing

1. Hormone Testing

Blood tests check hormone levels that control egg growth and ovulation. This helps to see if eggs are being produced normally. (Hormones - FSH, LH, E2 and P4 LEVELS)

2. Ovarian Reserve Test

Special hormone tests, like Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH), shows the egg reserve or egg supply of your body.

3. Ultrasound Examination

A small ultrasound probe inserted into the vagina to see ovaries and uterus. Ultrasound looks for any abnormal growth in uterus or cyst in ovaries. This helps check the number of eggs, the condition of the uterus, and looks for any growths.

4. Fallopian Tube Check

Tests like an X-ray with dye (HSG) or injecting normal saline under USG guidance (SIS) to see if the tubes are open. To test if eggs and sperm can meet and fertilise.

5. Other Tests

Thyroid hormone test, Rubella IGG, prolactin levels, HbA1C.

Note: You might not require all of these tests and procedures. Some can be done based on symptoms, results of previous tests and treatment history.

For Men: Male Fertility Testing

1. Semen Analysis

Sample of semen is tested for number, shape and movement of sperms to assess male fertility.

2. Hormone Blood Tests

Sometimes blood tests are done to check hormones that affect sperm production.

3. Additional Tests

DFI (DNA fragmentation index) and Scrotal ultrasound and doppler study.

Advanced Tests

3D or High-Resolution Ultrasound

Detailed imaging of ovaries, uterus, and pelvic area to detect abnormalities like fibroids, cysts, or uterine malformations.

Genetic and Immunological Screening

Genetic, Immunological, and Microbiome Studies will be done to assess genetic conditions or immunity conditions affecting fertility.

Endometrial Tests (ERA/EMMA and ALICE)

To assess endometrial health and receptivity.

Hysteroscopy

A direct visual examination using a camera to look for polyps, adhesions, or other uterine abnormalities affecting the lining.
